Route Description

Milngavie - Drymen
The route starts in Milngavie, a suburb of Glasgow. It travels across rolling hills and lowland plains. This is an easy pleasant walk along the valleys of Blane and Endrick with good views of the hills.

Drymen - Rowardennan
The route continues with a mixture of good woodland paths, moderate gradients on Conic Hill and hillside tracks as the path skirts the Campsie Fells. There are great few of Loch Lomond and its islands, before the path descends to the shoreline, which is followed to Rowardennan, at the foot of Ben Lomond.

Rowardennan - Crianlarich
Today is mainly rugged walking over lochside rocks and tree roots with some scrambling. As well as the views of the loch, islands, and woodlands, there are glimpses of the Cobbler, a spectacular mountain across the loch, and later waterfalls and rapids along Glen Falloch.

Crianlarich - Inveroran
Typical highland walking in glens and over low passes as the route winds its way up to Inveroran. A straightforward section on good paths through spectacular highland landscapes. Lots of great views of the surrounding mountains.

Inveroran - Kinlochleven
This is the most dramatic section of the route, passing of the western edge of Rannoch Moor to the remote Kingshouse hotel, dominated by the massive rocky mountains to the west, including the famous Buachaille Etive Mòr. From here the route climbs steeply out of Glencoe up the Devils Staircase, with, in clear weather, more dramatic views over Glencoe, Ben Nevis, and more distant Scottish Highlands in all directions.

Kinlochleven - Fort William
Starting with a steep climb out of Kinlochleven followed by rough paths in Nevis Forest, the route climbs again, with good views of Ben Nevis, before dropping into the dramatic Glen Nevis and onwards to Fort William.
