Tynemouth - Stamfordham
The route begins at Tynemouth and uses a network of cycle paths to bypass the centre of Newcastle. After the old mining village of Wide Open the route passes through the Northumbrian countryside and onto Stamfordham, the first of your overnight stops.
Stamfordham - Falstone
Today you will cycle through rolling countryside and parkland, with views to the north of the Cheviot hills. You continue on through the market town of Bellingham and onto Falstone, this evening's destination.
Falstone - Bailey Mill
Today you cycle up the North Tyne Valley and onto Kielder water, England's largest lake. You can cycle either side of the lake, on the road or on forestry tracks to reach Kielder. The route crosses the border into Scotland admidst the forest before entering Liddesdale and back into England at Kershope bridge. You will then arrive at Bailey Mill, today's destination.
Bailey Mill - Carlisle
You will carry on your ride through the Solway Plain where there are superb views over the broad river Eden, around Rockcliffe and Stainton before your arrival in to Cumbria's major city, Carlisle.
Carlisle - Caldbeck
Your journey continues on from the historic city of Carlisle and onto the Solway Plain before climbing into the northern fringes of the Lake District National Park and onto the pretty village of Caldbeck.
Caldbeck - Whitehaven
Departing Caldbeck with fine views across the fells, you continue on to the historical market town of Cockermouth. A network of cycle paths take you on to Whitehaven, the end of the Reviers route and tonight's accommodation.
Whitehaven - Mungrisedale
A network of cycle paths lead you to the western edge of the Lake District National Park. The route climbs fellsides, follows lake shores and continues on through Whinlatter forest park to Keswick, a popular market town. Leaving Keswick on the old railway to Threlkeld, the route then skirts the slopes of Blencathra, one of Cumbria's most distinctive mountains, heading to the hamlet of Mungrisedale.
Mungrisedale - Alston
From here your journey continues through the fringes of the Lake District to the market town of Penrith and the village of Langwathby in the Eden Valley. A long climb up Hartside Pass into the north Pennines, England's last wilderness and onto tonight's destination, the village of Alston.
Alston - Castleside
Carrying on the climbing over Black Hill, at 609 metres and on through the old mining village of Allenheads, the mountainous part of the route is now complete. The Waskerley Way is a level and largely well-surfaced dedicated cycle trail that brings you to Castleside just outside Consett, which is today's destination.
Castleside - Tynemouth
Today there are lengthy sections on well surfaced off-road tracks with gentle downhill pedalling. You will spend much of your time passing through Newcastle before arriving at your final destination, the north peir at Tynemouth, before heading to your accommodation for your final night, and well earned rest!
