Tynemouth - Bellingham
The route begins at Tynemouth and uses a network of cyclepaths
to bypass the centre of Newcastle. After the old mining village
of Wide Open the route passes through the Northumbrian countryside with views to the north of the Cheviot Hills. Today's destination is the market town of Bellingham.
Bellingham - Newcastleton
Today you cycle up the North Tyne Valley and on to Kielder Water, England's largest lake. You can cycle either side of the lake, both on and off road cycle routes are available today, to take you deeper in to Kielder forest. The route crosses the border into Scotland admidst Kielder forest before entering Liddesdale to reach tonight's stay in Newcastleton.
Newcastleton - Carlisle
On leaving this morning you cross back into England at Kershope bridge and carry on your journey down through the Solway Plain, through the market town of Longtown and on to the historic city of Carlisle.
Carlisle - St Bee
The final day begins on the Solway Plain before climbing into the northern fringes of the Lake District National Park. Small lanes skirt the fell sides and cross moorland before the route descends to Cockermouth and on to Workington. A network of cycle paths take you through Whitehaven, a pleasant maritime port, and onto quiet lanes to St Bees, your final destination. |
